Iconic R&B group Boyz II Men is set to bring their storied 30-year career to the big screen, with a feature film biopic currently in development.
Known for timeless hits like “End of the Road,” “On Bended Knee,” “Motownphilly,” and “One Sweet Day,” the four-time Grammy-winning trio has partnered with Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave for the film, with members Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wanya Morris signed on as executive producers.
Alongside the biopic, Compelling Pictures will produce a long-form documentary chronicling Boyz II Men’s monumental rise in the 1990s and their ongoing influence. In a statement, Nathan Morris expressed the group’s excitement, emphasizing that Compelling Pictures’ Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri understood their vision from the start. O’Sullivan, known for his work on Bohemian Rhapsody, and Kalligheri, recently involved with I Wanna Dance with Somebody, are now in discussions with writers and directors to fast-track the project. Their commitment, paired with Boyz II Men’s expansive catalog, sets the stage for a film that celebrates the group’s legacy.
Boyz II Men broke onto the scene in 1991 with Cooleyhighharmony, a chart-topping debut that launched them into global stardom, eventually making them the best-selling R&B group of all time with over 60 million albums sold. The group continues to perform, recently selling out a three-night headliner at the Hollywood Bowl—a poignant return to a venue they once opened in the early days of their career.
Reflecting on the journey, O’Sullivan and Kalligheri expressed their honor in helping to tell this “unique and untold story,” noting that the film would capture the “brotherhood and camaraderie, as well as the challenges and heartbreak” that have defined Boyz II Men’s career.
Primary Wave’s Larry Mestel also shared his excitement, highlighting the group’s enduring influence and genre-defying legacy. “Boyz II Men are one of the most influential bands of a generation,” he noted. “This film will reintroduce their powerful story and music to a new generation.”
Joe Mulvihill, Boyz II Men’s manager of over two decades, added that viewers would get an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the group’s highs, lows, and transformative moments.
In addition to Morris, Stockman, and Morris, the film’s executive production team includes Ori Allon, Dennis Casali, and Steven Garcia.
