After playing a total of 13 minutes as a professional player with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bronny James is officially being sent to the G-Leauge, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Following the Lakers home against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday (Nov. 8), James will join the South Bay Lakers. According to the report, James will suit up for Lakers home games and split his time between the two teams.
One of the games that Bronny appeared in was against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team that drafted his father, LeBron James, He also was born and spent significant time in the greater Cleveland area.
After scoring his first basket in the NBA, Bronny reflected on how surreal the moment was in a post-game interview.
“It was insane,” Bronny said with excitement. “Much more than I anticipated for sure. But it’s all love. It was insane. It was a nice moment. The chants really got me. I was straight-faced, but I felt it and it felt really good, especially coming from here.”
In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Lakers’ chose Bronny in the second-round pick with No. 55 overall. Bronny signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract, a standard deal that agent Rich Paul negotiated rather than the two-way contract that second-rounders usually sign.
J.J. Redick, head coach stated in October that the Lakers would be going this route all along.
“The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since day one. [General manager] Rob [Pelinka] and I have talked about that,” Redick explained. “LeBron’s talked about that.”
After getting out to a 3-0 start, the Lakers have hit a cold spell losing four of its last five games on the road. The squad is no 4-4 following another loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday (Nov.6).
