Brooklyn honors one of its own, Combat Jack, on what would have been his 55th birthday with his very own street sign.

On Monday (July 8), the signage dubbed Reggie “Combat Jack” Ossé Place, located on a section of Bergen Street in Crown Heights, was unveiled.

“Today, we named a street for my dad on the block where he raised us, happy birthday @reggieosse,” wrote Combat’s son, NYC Council member Chi Ossé, alongside a photo of the momentous occasion which he shared on Instagram.

The honor was first announced last spring by A-King, co-founder of The Combat Jack Podcast, via social media.

“Family, Friends and Community at large, please join us to a momentous occasion as we come together to celebrate the passing of a City Council resolution that will forever honor the legendary Reggie “Combat Jack” Osse,” he wrote of the former lawyer and Hip Hop personality. “His immeasurable contributions to our community and the world of hip-hop deserve to be recognized and celebrated in a special way.”

He continued: “Reggie “Combat Jack” Osse was not only an influential figure in music and media but also a passionate advocate for justice, culture, and the power of storytelling. With his pioneering work as an iconic podcast host and attorney, he touched the lives of countless individuals and brought marginalized voices to the forefront.”

In December 2017, Combat Jack passed away at the age of 48 due to aggressive colon cancer. A native New Yorker, he represented major Hip Hop artists such as Jay-Z and Capone-N-Noreaga, and made significant cultural contributions through his work with publications like The Source.

Prior to his passing, combat touched on his diagnosis, sharing he was facing “some real shit.”

“In 7 years of podcasting, I’ve never missed an episode,” he began in a statement. “I got hit with some real life shit. I was recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer. I was rushed to the hospital, had some pretty severe surgery.”

He continued: “I’m on the mend right now. I’m about to jump on this journey to health with chemo and alternative medicine. Take care of your health. Your boy aint going nowhere though. We’re going to keep doing this. Keep rocking’ with us.”
