In 2019, rapper Bun B and his wife, Queenie, experienced a terrifying armed robbery at their home. The intruder, Demonte Jackson, forced his way inside at gunpoint, aiming to steal one of their cars. Bun B was upstairs when he heard his wife screaming, “Just take the car! Just take the car!” He rushed downstairs with his own gun, resulting in a shootout that left Jackson injured. Jackson was later found and arrested at a hospital.

The legal proceedings have spanned five years, finally concluding with Jackson receiving a 40-year prison sentence. According to ABC 13 in Houston, Jackson, who was 20 at the time of the crime, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized crime. Bun B, whose real name is Bernard Freeman, testified for the first time during the sentencing, detailing the traumatic event and its ongoing impact on their lives. He shared how his wife, who had previously completed therapy for anxiety, was deeply affected by the robbery.

On the day of the incident, Queenie initially thought she was receiving an Amazon delivery. Instead, Jackson, masked and armed, forced his way inside and held her at gunpoint. He then moved to the garage, attempting to steal their car. Bun B, hearing his wife’s distress, ran downstairs, engaged in a struggle with Jackson, and shot him. Reflecting on that night, Bun B said, “Just the idea of seeing my wife in this state, hearing her voice in this state. I’m her husband. That’s my primary job, to protect her and make her feel safe, and I wanted to know who did this to her.”

During the testimony, Bun B became emotional, emphasizing that his wife did not deserve the trauma inflicted by Jackson. Jackson’s defense team did not question Bun B.

Despite the ordeal, Bun B has continued his music career. In April, he released “YOKOZONA TRILL,” a feature-packed album with appearances from various artists. This album follows his 2018 release, “Return of the Trill.”
