Cardi B made a bold statement in New York City, stepping out in a T-shirt that read “Free Star” while celebrating the birthday of her best friend, Star Brim. Known as “The Godmother,” Star Brim, real name Yonette Respass, is currently serving a one-year sentence under RICO charges. The rapper’s public show of solidarity didn’t go unnoticed, as others in her circle also celebrated her birthday by wearing shirts that read “Free Star Bute.”

Brim has been a major presence in Cardi B’s life for years, and the rapper has continued to support her despite her legal troubles. In November 2024, Brim took to Instagram to share photos from prison, captioning them: “Walking This & Down!! & HFREEME #FREEDABIGGEST.” The post reaffirmed her resilience and sparked even more conversation about her situation.

By January 2025, Cardi B took her advocacy a step further, calling for an investigation into FCI Hazelton, where Brim is serving her sentence. She alleged that prison officials mishandled Brim’s mail and failed to maintain basic living conditions, such as heating in the cells. Cardi B claimed that Brim had not received any mail since November, emphasizing that such a failure is a federal offense.

While Cardi B is no stranger to speaking out for those she cares about, her unwavering loyalty to Brim has been especially evident during this time. Whether through fashion statements, social media, or direct advocacy, she continues to use her platform to keep her best friend’s name in the spotlight.
