Cash Cobain teases an upcoming track dedicated to Pop Smoke while celebrating the late rap star’s birthday.

On Saturday (July 20), the “Fishherrr” hitmaker posted a video clip for the upcoming visual on Instagram that shows the 26-year-old flipping Pop Smoke’s lyrics from the classic “For The Night.” The post is captioned, “Coming soon. Happy Birthday Pop Smoke [blue heart emoji] it’s only right @apex.visions [blue heart emoji].“

Paying homage, Cobain raps, “I did some wrong (Oh, oh), but I’m always right (Oh, oh) / Said I know how to shoot (Oh, oh) and I know how to fight / Boy, I’ll tell you once, won’t tell you twice / I’m real discreet, like a thief in the night (Look).”

Pop Smoke, shot and killed during a home invasion in 2020, would have turned 25 on July 20. Before his death, he was the newly annotated King of New York. Smoke cemented his star power with collaborations with Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, and Skepta after his debut single, “Welcome to the Party,” reached the top of the Billboard charts in 2019.

His debut album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, was released posthumously in July 2020. A second posthumous album, Faith, was released in July 2021. Both albums include features by 50 Cent, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Chris Brown, Roddy Richh, Fivio Foreign, and more.

Many of today’s biggest rap stars acknowledged Cash Cobain’s preview. “Crazzy,” commented Quavo.

Wiz Khalifa followed the Migo, commenting, “Real1,” while Sheff G wrote, “!!!!”

Lola Brooke and DThang commented with multiple fire emojis. One of Pop Smoke’s producers, Rico Beats, saluted Cash Cobain as a sign of approval.

The upcoming track leads to Cobain hitting the road with Ice Spice at the end of the month. The two will begin touring on July 30 to support Ice Spice’s highly-anticipated debut album, Y2K, which drops on July 26.
