Central Cee set the internet ablaze after insinuating that he had a significant influence in popularizing Nike Tech fleece jackets. On Wednesday (Jan.29), the UK-born rapper dropped by Web Culture for a quick interview. When asked about his signature style — which usually comprises Nike Tech fleece jackets and pants — he believes he “put a lot of people on.”
“Me, I’m humble innit but at the same time, I like to think that man put a lot of men onto the Nike Tech ting. You see da influence even in America and dat now, people be rocking their techs like they’re us,” Central Cee says.
The London native continues: “It’s perfect timing as well really….you can’t rush it…” Before the interview clip ends, several rappers are shown rocking the popular Nike Tech fleece sets, including Drake and NLE Choppa. One can infer that the following slides were to add weight to Cee’s argument about his influence. However, many folks online didn’t seem to agree.

“His entire lifestyle is based on black American culture,” One person wrote on x
Many people who responded under the interview clip accused the rapper (who’s of English, Guyanese, and Chinese descent) of appropriating Black culture. “His entire lifestyle is based on black American culture but he think we got dressing tips from HIM?! Lmao!” one person wrote on X. “Buddy wasn’t even old enough to make any money of his own when we started wearing Nike tech.”
Similarly, another person commented, “Central Cee saying he influenced Americans to wear Nike Techs is up there with possibly the most delusional thing I’ve ever heard someone say.” However, there was a small minority that came to Central Cee’s defense.
“YES Central Cee individually didn’t put AMERICANS on Nike Tech Fleeces but the UK in general has been on that particular aesthetic and mold before NY/America,” another X user wrote. “This is how marketing works — they made what was available in London also available in NY and across the country.”
