Chance the Rapper is serious about giving back to the youth in his city.
The rapper is keeping his word and is willing to put his money where his mouth is. As a way to help bring some much needed money into the public school system that is reportedly in need of $215 million, Chance is donating $1 million to Chicago Public School system.
He is currently working on trying to improve the system. On Friday (Mar 3), recently had meetings with Governor Bruce Rauner last week to discuss how they can help with funding. After the meeting, Chance left looking annoyed after claiming he own received “vague answers.”
Governor Rauner released two memos today to try and bring some answers to the problems.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times:
Gov. Bruce Rauner’s administration is recommending two solutions to address the Chicago Public Schools’ teacher-pension mess — allowing Mayor Emanuel to use tax-increment financing funds to fill a $215 million hole, or adding the funding to the Illinois Senate’s pension bill and taking it out of the “grand bargain” budget package.
Chicago Public Schools and the mayor’s office immediately criticized the plans, while a spokesman for Illinois Senate President John Cullerton said the apparent flip flop on the pension bill shows why the Senate chose to negotiate alone on its package, and not with the governor.
