Childish Gambino has had enough. Earlier this year, he announced that his final two albums under the Childish Gambino moniker were on the way. In May, he released Atavista, a reimagined version of his 2020 LP 3.15.20. Now, fans eagerly await Bando Stone in The New World, which he previously stated would drop this summer. Earlier this week, the release date for the project’s lead single, “Lithonia,” was revealed.
It was announced that the highly anticipated track would arrive on July 2nd. However, the news was leaked sooner than Childish Gambino intended. The artist took to Instagram Live to express his frustration, pointing fingers at the streaming platform Audiomack for the leak. Clearly upset, he shared his thoughts on the situation.
In a clip from the live stream, Childish Gambino vented his annoyance and suggested that leaks like this contribute to the scarcity of new music from artists. “That’s another reason why y’all don’t get good sh*t. Like, it’s just for what? It’s like we don’t treat… It’s not valuable enough like it’s just a single… And I know who did it, Audiomack. F*ckin’, no soup for you, you’re not getting the album now. That’s what time I’m on.” He concluded the stream abruptly, leaving fans with many unanswered questions.
The implications of this leak for the release of “Lithonia” and the rest of Bando Stone in The New World are still unclear. Fans can only hope that this incident won’t delay the project and that they will still be able to enjoy the new album this summer.
What do you think of Childish Gambino’s reaction to the premature reveal of the “Lithonia” release date?
