Childish Gambino, known offstage as Donald Glover, has joined forces with Jorja Smith and Amaarae for a new track called “In the Night,” released on Tuesday. This song, infused with warm synths and a driving baseline, explores the intensity of a forbidden love. Gambino sings in the chorus, “Cause in the night, I dream of you/ Doesn’t matter what I do.”

The track is co-produced by Gambino, DJ Dahi, and Kurtis McKenzie, and is part of his sixth and final album, Bando Stone & the New World. Fans got an exclusive first listen of the entire album at a special event held at New York’s Little Island on July 6.

Following “Lithonia,” another track from the album produced by Max Martin and Ludwig Göransson, “In the Night” continues to build anticipation for Bando Stone & the New World. Gambino also debuted a trailer for a film sharing the same title at the 2024 BET Awards in June, in which he stars as the character Bando Stone. Discussing the album on Instagram Live, he remarked, “I feel like there’s just people not having enough fun… When I was a kid there was, like, big things that would unite us and I just feel bad for y’all. I feel bad for some of y’all.”

In a surprise move, Gambino released Atavista in May, an updated version of his 2020 album 3.15.20, which includes two new songs: “Atavista” and “Human Sacrifice.” This reimagined album also features tracks like “Time” with Ariana Grande and “Psilocybae” featuring 21 Savage, Ink, and Kadhja Bonet, previously known as “12.38.”

Gambino’s New World tour kicks off on August 11, with Willow as a special guest. The tour will stop in cities such as Oklahoma City, Detroit, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Atlanta, concluding in Chicago on October 3 before heading overseas.
