Childish Gambino has dropped a new album, titled Atavista and it’s loaded with epic collaborations.
On Monday (May 13), the multifaceted artist (real name Donald Glover) announced on X/Twitter the “finished” version of 3.15.20, the album initially released in March 2020 but later scrubbed from streaming platforms.
“ATAVISTA is streaming now,” he exclaimed. “this album is the finished version of “3.15.20”, the album i put out 4 years ago. there’s a special vinyl coming soon w/ visuals for each song.”
Regarding the “all new” album previewed last month, Glover revealed fans can expect it to release sometime this “summer.”
And fans were here for it! “I PRAYED FOR TIMES LIKE THIS,” wrote one fan.
“ATAVISTA OUT NOW LETS GOOOOO,” added another.
A third user underscored his influence by comparing him to the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Kid Cudi, labeling Childish Gambino as a true educator. The user wrote, “Ima say this once and I dont care who sees. You’re a creative genius and my biggest inspiration to making music and being unafraid. Cudi is a therapist. Kendrick is the conscious voice. You sir are the performing arts teacher that inspires his students. Salute. I don’t care 4 h8.”
Adding more fuel to the fire, the “Pop Thieves (Make It Feel Good)” lyricist directed fans to YouTube for a dose of excitement, inviting them to groove to the visuals of his “Little Foot Big Foot” single featuring Nudy.
In the music video, shot in black and white, Glover flaunts his dance moves amidst a wild nightclub scene straight out of the roaring twenties.
In April, Gambino teased not one but two projects slated for release in the coming months. ‘We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album, a soundtrack for the fans,’ he said during an Instagram Live session. He also mentioned that the final Gambino record would be titled Bando Stone & The New World.
The fresh spin — which features a slightly trimmer track list — comes with a series of revamped tracks, and snazzy new titles. Plus, brace yourselves for fresh vocals from Young Nudy and Summer Walker, joining the ranks of previous guests 21 Savage, Ariana Grande, and Kadhja Bonet, among others.
