Chris Brown has issued an apology to Robert Glasper for his initial reaction after losing the Best R&B Album award to the pianist at the 2023 Grammys on Sunday (Feb. 5).
“Congratulations my brother,” the “Under The Influence” hitmaker wrote in a direct message to Glasper on Instagram. “I would like to apologize if you took offense to my reaction at the Grammys. You were not the intended target and I know I came off really rude and mean.”
Brown continued, “After doing my research I actually think [you’re] amazing. The organization isn’t doing us Blacks our due diligence You and I should never be in the same category… Two totally different vibes and genre.”
“So from one Black man to another… Congratulations. [I] hope you are able to feed your family for like. God bless my G,” he added.
The 33-year-old, who’s 2022 album, Breezy, was nominated in the category, lashed out on social media after Glasper’s Black Radio III album was announced as the winner. “Who the f**k is Robert Glasper” Brown asked in a post on his Instagram Story. He also sarcastically joked about his lack of musical ability playing a part in his loss. “I Gotta get my skills up,” the Virginia native wrote in another post. “Ima start playing the harmonica.” Glasper, who is pianist, record producer, songwriter, and musical arranger, has a total of five Grammy awards.
