It appears that Kehlani has forgiven Chris Brown for his past comments, but the fans have not.
A photo of the two recording artists together went viral over the weekend, sparking mixed reactions on social media due to their troubled history. Posted in Chris Brown’s Instagram stories, the singer captioned the photo, “Twin [heart emoji] @kehlani.”
In 2016, when Kehlani attempted suicide, Brown made controversial comments on Twitter. The “Under The Influence” hitmaker posted, “There is no attempting suicide. Stop flexing for the gram. Doing s**t for sympathy so those comments under your pics don’t look so bad,” and added, “I’ll be the biggest piece of [poop emoji]. But ima ride for my homies regardless. KYRIE is probably one of the only good guys left. IDGAF!”
Many fans found his remarks insensitive, especially considering his public issues with women. Some fans criticized Kehlani for appearing with Brown, arguing that it contradicts her advocacy for mental health.
“Kehlani clicking down… you can’t support a serial abuser and be an activist,” one fan commented.
Another fan countered, “Apparently, Chris Brown is the ONLY person in the world who is not allowed to change. He definitely reached out to Kehlani and apologized for what he said in the past; they are cool now. Period.”
Despite the backlash, there has been no public reconciliation between Kehlani and Brown. Their recent interaction suggests they have moved past previous conflicts, but for many of Kehlani’s fans, it is difficult to understand her willingness to connect with someone who was insensitive during one of her darkest moments.
Kehlani is set to hit the road on her CRASH tour this month, while Chris Brown has been very successful with his 11:11 tour. In other news, Chris Brown was hit with a 50 million dollar lawsuit over allegedly assaulting a group of people backstage after a show in Forth Worth, Texas.
