A new documentary from Investigation Discovery (ID), titled Chris Brown: A History of Violence, delves into the dark past of Chris Brown, focusing on his legal troubles and abuse allegations. Premiering on October 27th as part of ID’s annual “No Excuse for Abuse” campaign, the film explores Brown’s history of domestic violence, assault, and sexual misconduct, including the notorious 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna, which left her hospitalized. Brown later pleaded guilty to felony assault. Over the years, he has faced additional charges and lawsuits, including a sexual assault claim that was settled out of court.

The documentary also examines Brown’s troubled upbringing, attempting to understand how his violent past continues to shape his life and career. A new accuser is featured in the trailer, choosing to remain anonymous, stating, “I have not spoken about this matter publicly, but that’s the only way he can be stopped.”

Chris Brown: A History of Violence questions how Brown has maintained his celebrity status despite his violent record. It features commentary from experts who reflect on the psychological toll experienced by survivors of abuse.

After the documentary airs at 9 p.m. on ID, The View co-host Sunny Hostin will lead a discussion on intimate partner violence. Hostin, a former prosecutor, shared, “Throughout my career, I have always prioritized being a fierce defender of women and children.” She emphasized the importance of addressing domestic violence, a widespread issue that affects people from all walks of life.

This documentary follows ID’s previous exposé on child abuse in Nickelodeon shows, Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, and will be followed by a docuseries on Sean “Diddy” Combs.
