After being out of the league for almost a decade, Colin Kapernick would still love to play quarterback in the NFL.

Appearing on “CBS Mornings” along with his partner and  HOT 97’s own Nessa Diab to promote their new children’s book, “We Are Free, You and Me,” Kaepernick expressed that he still has the desire and the ability to make an impact on the gridiron.

“It was 15 years of work and dedication before I ever stepped foot on an NFL field, and to have that passion and chase it for that long, you don’t just give that up, you don’t just walk away. You chase that. You pursue it,” he said.

While he hasn’t played since the 2017 season when he began kneeling during the “National Anthem” in protest of police killings of Black citizens,  Kaepernick says he still trains and works out at a high level.

“There will never be an instance where I’m not ready, and there will never be an instance where it’s because he doesn’t want to anymore,” he emphasized.

Kapernick then went on to share how his work as an activist changed the trajectory of his career and how a conversation with a young person at his Know Your Rights Camp put everything in perspective for the former San Francisco 49ers QB.

“I had one of the youths at our Know Your Rights Camp ask me, ‘I love playing football, but I also really care about my community, and I saw what happened. How do I do both,” Kaepernick said. And for me, I’ve had so many conversations like that, and my response is always, you don’t have to choose one or the other. You can do both.”

Kapernick and Diab also spoke about what inspired them to write the children’s book and how it centers on the 10 principles of the Know Your Rights Camp. They hope that the children who read it will develop a deep love of themselves.
