Common and Pete Rock tease the release date for their forthcoming joint album, The Auditorium Vol. 1, by dropping a new single.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (June 11), the Chicago rapper reflected on the inspiration behind the project, while highlighting how working alongside the legendary music producer is a dream realized.
“For me, this all started with A Dream. A Dream to let the world know I’ve been here. A dream to be a part of Hip Hop. A Dream to MC at a level where De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One and Ice Cube knew who I was. It’s been a dream of mine to work with the LEGENDARY @realpeterock (on more than just one song). I’ve been Dreamin’ my whole life,” he began in the caption, alongside the cover art for the album.
Moving on, the three-time Grammy winner announced a summer release date, expressing his hope that “this music will move your spirit and be with you for the rest of your life.”
“I am super geeked and supremely grateful to announce our New Album – The Auditorium Vol. 1 dropping July 12. I have to say, the love you all have been showing has been INCREDIBLE. And know, anytime someone says they are “looking forward to that album you are doing with Pete Rock“
“It just makes me happy to be a part of this art form. We pray and hope that this music will move your spirit and be with you for the rest of your life. Thanks to all who helped make it happen and to all of you for the Supreme Love. GOD Bless.”

In the comment section, Pete Rock echoed the Like Water For Chocolate rapper’s sentiments, emphasizing the excitement surrounding this collaboration. He wrote: “I honor our friendship since 91 home slice lol. This was a dream i had for years to come together with you on something! Now we get to show everyone the results after working with each other on our 1st album ever! Man this is exciting my bro 😎 Thank you so much for this.”
Last month, the rapper-producer duo — who previously joined forces on tracks such as “The Bitch in Yoo,” Common’s The Dreamer/The Believer (2011) with No I.D., and Rock’s Don’t Smoke Rock (2016) with Smoke DZA (among others) —released “Wise Up,” the first single from their upcoming album, after months of teasing a full project.
While appearing on an episode of MSNBC’s The Beat With Ari Melber last fall, Common dropped the exciting news about his collaboration with the legendary Pete Rock. Not to be outdone, Rock vowed that The Auditorium Vol. 1 would inject some serious excitement back into Hip Hop, that same month.
“You ever miss that feeling of a good release in Hip Hop?” he wrote on Instagram. “Remember how exciting that felt??? We both excited as a mafugga. i always feel like i got something to prove but its just fun to me to make music.
“Competing to make good music with all the different personalities involved today just gotten dry. We love Hip Hop and you will know just how much. stay tuned!!!”
Meanwhile, the music video for their new single, “Dreamin’,” which samples Joey Bada$$’s “Save the Children,” is available for viewing on YouTube.
