“David Makes Man” Actor, Akili McDowell, Charged With Murder

Akili McDowell, the 21-year-old actor recognized for his role in David Makes Man, has been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting incident in Houston. On August 1st, McDowell was booked into Harris County Jail on charges of both murder and theft. It is currently unknown whether he has entered a plea or secured legal representation.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, announced McDowell’s arrest on August 3rd. According to the statement, the incident took place on July 20 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Houston. Deputies who arrived at the scene found a man who had been shot. The victim, later named as 20-year-old Cesar Peralta, was declared dead at the location. Gonzalez mentioned that investigators suspect those involved in the shooting had fled, and it is not yet clear how McDowell was identified as a suspect or if he had any connection to the victim.

Akili McDowell is best known for his role as David. He starred in the critically acclaimed series “David Makes Man”. The show debuted on OWN in August 2019.
