On Friday (March 3), legendary Hip Hop trio De La Soul’s music catalog spanning from 1989 to 2001 finally debuted on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and many other music streaming services.
“We can’t believe this day is finally here,” the band said in a statement, “and we are excited to be able to share our music with fans, old and new”. This amazing news comes after decades of legal and copyright battles over hundreds of uncleared samples. But, ever since Reservoir Media bought their master recordings in 2021, it opened an avenue to resolve the issues.
The newly available albums includes 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul Is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, and AOI: Bionix. It is also the 34th anniversary of their 1989 debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising. The project included hit single “Me, Myself and I,” which spent 17 weeks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
David “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur, who was one third of De La Soul, died last month at the age of 54. Yesterday, the rapper’s family, friends, and fans came together to celebrate his life, legacy and music with The DA.I.S.Y Experience at New York’s Webster Hall. Stretch Armstrong, Rich Medina, D Nice, Clark Kent, Tony Touch, Chuck D, Talib Kweli, and Black Thought, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Kid Capri, Just Blaze, Common, Pete Rock, Diamond D, DJ Premier, Busta Rhymes, Large Professor, Dave Chappelle, Q-Tip, and many more took the stage.
