The iconic Def Jam Recordings is set to launch its own dedicated channel, offering fans an immersive experience with a blend of long-form and short-form content. The channel will showcase music videos, documentaries, and live performances from legendary artists like LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, John Legend, and DMX, highlighting the label’s illustrious legacy.
In a statement, Def Jam announced the channel as a key milestone in celebrating its 40th anniversary.
“The Def Jam channel will be the culmination of a year of anniversary celebrations for the groundbreaking record label,” the statement read.
This marks the first instance of a major Universal Music Group label creating its own television channel directly for fans, a move that underscores Def Jam’s continued innovation in connecting with audiences.
The free, ad-supported channel will debut on Tubi for U.S. viewers, while international audiences can access it via Samsung TV+. The launch follows a year of commemorative events, including a special broadcast on Apple TV and pop-up experiences in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, cementing Def Jam’s cultural significance.
“Over the last 40 years, Def Jam has consistently led the charge in pioneering new ways for our artists to celebrate their creativity and connect with fans,” said Tunji Balogun, Def Jam’s Chairman and CEO. “
As we continue to evolve within the music industry, we are thrilled to partner with Tubi to reach new audiences on innovative platforms.”
In addition to the live channel, Tubi viewers will have on-demand access to music-focused content through a partnership with UMG’s Mercury Studios. This collaboration introduces ad-supported video-on-demand (AVoD) options, featuring exclusive Def Jam artist performances and content.
Charlene Thomas, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Special Projects at Def Jam, emphasized the channel’s significance. “FAST channels like these offer artists a direct way to reach fans and build meaningful connections. Def Jam, as a cultural trailblazer, is perfectly positioned to lead this groundbreaking partnership with Tubi.”
Dan Borrelli, Mercury’s Senior Vice President of Digital Content and Partnerships, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of accessibility. “These platforms enable artists to connect with fans effortlessly, fostering lasting relationships. We’re excited to join forces with Tubi and Def Jam to bring this vision to life.”
With this launch, Def Jam continues to redefine how music is experienced, reinforcing its role as a pioneer in the evolving entertainment landscape.
