Denzel Washington & Spike Lee Set To Reunite In “High And Low” Remake

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington are reuniting after 17 years to remake Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller, High and Low, for A24 and AppleTV+.

Their resume includes Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), Mo Better Blues (1990), and Inside Man (2006).

In High And Low, they reinterpret Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller based on the Ed McBain novel “King’s Ransom,” about the ruin of a businessman who pays a ransom to kidnappers. The film begins production this March with a script written by Alan Fox and Spike Lee. Lee will also serve as executive producer through his 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks.

The film will be developed and produced by by A24, Escape Artists, and Mandalay Pictures and released theatrically by A24 before a global launch on AppleTV+.

High and Low marks Washington’s second collaboration with Apple Original Films following 2021’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, which earned the actor his 10th Oscar for Best Actor.
