Sean “Diddy” Combs has accused federal prosecutors of manipulating evidence to portray him as more dangerous than he claims to be.
TMZ reports new court filings submitted ahead of his upcoming bail hearing, Diddy and his legal team allege that prosecutors edited a March 2016 surveillance video to distort the sequence of events, presenting what they called “their most powerful evidence of danger and obstruction.”
Diddy’s attorneys argue that the government possesses a complete version of the video, widely circulated online, but selectively altered the footage to strengthen their case. The video, which has been central to allegations of domestic violence, depicts a confrontation between Diddy and singer Cassie Ventura. According to Diddy, it reflects a “domestic dispute,” not the so-called “freak-off” prosecutors have described. He insists the footage captures him retrieving his clothing and cellphone in a heated moment, rather than engaging in violent behavior.
Diddy denies some of the key accusations tied to the video. He asserts that he did not drag Cassie down the hotel hallway nor throw a vase at her, as alleged. Instead, he claims he tossed the vase’s contents at her during the argument. His legal team maintains that these details have been exaggerated to influence the court’s decision and ensure he remains in custody pending trial.
The motion underscores Diddy’s broader accusation: that prosecutors are deliberately mischaracterizing evidence to cast him as a threat. By doing so, his team argues, the government is attempting to sway the judge against granting bail.
This legal battle marks another chapter in Diddy’s contentious and highly publicized case, which has drawn widespread attention due to its serious allegations and the star’s high-profile status. As the court hearing approaches, these claims of evidence manipulation add a new layer of complexity to an already fraught legal saga.
