Diddy (real name Sean Combs), lawyers have offered some clarification after Rolling Stone released its scathing exposé about his dark past. The expose explores allegations of violence that go back as far as Combs’ days at Howard University. “For decades, Sean “Diddy” Combs was hip-hop’s boisterous showman. Now, dozens of former friends, employees, and Bad Boy artists allege an abusive, menacing figure behind the facade,” the article begins.
In response, Comb’s lawyers have released a statement regarding the piece. “Mr. Combs cannot comment on settled litigation, will not comment on pending litigation, and cannot address every allegation picked up by the press from any source, no matter how unreliable,” Combs’ legal team said in a statement. “We are aware that the proper authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and therefore have confidence any important issues will be addressed in the proper forum, where the rules distinguish facts from fiction.”
“We cannot address every allegation picked up by the press,” his legal team said.
Last year, Cassie sued the producer and accused him of rape, physical abuse, and human trafficking. Nearly one day later, the pair settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. The former couple were together for 11 years, from 2007 until 2019. One of Ventura’s actions was corroborated after CNN obtained footage of an alleged altercation between them in March 2016. The surveillance video sees a shaken Cassie swiftly moving down the hallway to the elevator. However, it’s not long before Diddy — with a towel around his waist — runs down the hallway after Ventura and begins physically assaulting her.
Following the video being released Diddy hopped on Instagram to offer an apology. “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you gotta do that,” he began. The superstar and hitmaker claims he was not himself: “I mean I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses.” He continues: “My behavior on the video was inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
