DJ Clark Kent has not passed away although rumors have been swirling around about his death.
On Wednesday (October 16), The Source reported that the legendary producer passed away from an undisclosed illness. The outlet also said that it received the information from a member of the family.
Many hip-hop luminaries took to social media to debunk the claims that the beloved Brooklyn native passed away.
“DJ Clark Kent is STILL with us. I know a lot of you are rushing to be ‘FIRST,” Questlove of The Roots wrote in his Instagram stories. “But until word or statement comes from his wife or family, can y’all please quit with the misinformation? It’s stressful as it is.”
“DJ Clark Kent has not passed away,” shared DJ Scratch said in an Instagram message. “Stop traumatizing the family [by] posting he has passed!”
Pete Rock added on Instagram: “A lot of y’all online need to get a life. Quick to report some sh*t. Shaking my f**king head. I can’t stand some of y’all.”
Later in the day, The Source retracted the story and offered an apology.
“The Source was contacted by a family member who brought that information to us as it was reported on other outlets,” the outlet shared on X (Formerly Twitter). “We are pleased to hear of the well-being of DJ Clark Kent and apologize to the family for reporting the false information.”
Throughout his storied career, Kent has produced classic songs for JAY-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Rakim, Lil Kim, Slick Rick, Mad Skillz, and Estelle just to name a few.
in addition to his music, Kent is known for his enormous sneaker collection.
“It’s always been about community. That’s why, if a shoe comes out in China, I can call someone and say, ‘Grab me that shoe,’” Kent said in an interview with News 12 The Bronx, “Because I’ve built community.”
