Donald Glover, 40, has unveiled the first trailer for his new movie, Bando Stone & The New World, which promises a thrilling experience.
The two-minute clip premiered in IMAX theaters on Thursday night, June 27, ahead of the screening of “A Quiet Place: Day One.” Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, announced the trailer release on Instagram just hours before, posting a photo of himself holding two cinema tickets and writing, “Bando Stone trailer is coming tonight @imax.”
Produced by RCA and Glover’s creative company Gilga, the film features Glover as a famous musician named Bando Stone navigating a post-apocalyptic world with his only talent being singing. The trailer combines creepy and comedic elements, showing Glover’s character banding with fellow survivors.
They face giant, bloodthirsty creatures, electromagnetic traps, and other surreal, potentially extraterrestrial threats. The trailer asks, “What are you when the world ends?”
“Bando Stone & The New World” also stars English actress Jessica Allain, known for her roles in “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Fear,” and “Thriller.” The movie will be available exclusively in IMAX theaters and accompanied by a soundtrack album from Childish Gambino, expected to be his final full-length release under this moniker. A release date has yet to be announced, but Glover has previously stated that the album will be out this summer.
The project’s lead single, “Lithonia,” is set to drop next Friday, July 2. Glover revealed during a TikTok Live earlier this week that the song had leaked ahead of time, blaming streaming service Audiomack.
“Lithonia is coming out July 2nd,” he said. “That got leaked. It kinda pissed me off, to be honest. That’s another reason why y’all don’t get good stuff. For what? It’s not valuable enough. It’s just a single. I know who did it, Audiomack. You’re not getting the album now.”
Bando Stone & The New World will be Gambino’s second album of 2024, following Atavista, the updated version of his 2020 LP 3.15.20, which dropped in May. In addition to his music comeback, Glover is preparing for a massive world tour spanning North America, Europe, and Oceania from August 2024 to February 2025.
