Dr. Dre has been hit with a restraining order after a Los Angeles judge ruled in favor of Dr. Charles Sophy, who is suing the music icon for $10 million. Sophy, who counseled Dre and his ex-wife during their divorce, claims Dre has been harassing him for over a year. On October 11, Sophy filed for and was granted the order, citing alleged threats from Dre toward him, his son, and even his dogs.

Sophy’s lawsuit reveals that he began working with Dre and his then-wife in 2018 as part of a “joint psychotherapist-patient relationship” and continued through their divorce, finalized in December 2021. However, in February 2023, Sophy claims Dre sent a text saying he had learned something “disturbing,” followed by the threat, “You’re going to have to pay for that.”

Dre allegedly accused Sophy of convincing someone to spread negative press about him, which the counselor denies. Fearing for his safety, Sophy says Dre escalated the situation by sending fake FBI agents to his home, leading him to wear a bulletproof vest.

Through his attorney, Howard King, Dr. Dre responded, calling the lawsuit retaliation. King noted that Dre had filed a complaint with California’s Osteopathic Medical Board, accusing Sophy of unprofessional conduct during the counseling sessions. King stated, “In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy inserted himself into a contentious divorce while… encouraging one of their children to take sides against Mr. Young.”

Sophy has reportedly refused to cooperate with the Medical Board’s investigation but proceeded with his lawsuit and restraining order as Dre’s complaint remains under review.
