Dr. Dre is riding with Kendrick Lamar and he wants everybody to know about it.
Making an appearance on The Unusual Suspects With Kenya Barris and Malcolm Gladwell on Thursday (Jan. 30), the legendary producer was not shy about picking sides. He also said Lamar’s “Not Like Us” ended and didn’t like how Drake spoke ill of Kendrick’s family on the songs.
Barris noted that Kendrick’s Pop Out concert made him “feel proud to be from L.A.”
“I love that record I’ma say this on camera. I don’t want to get negative,” Dre said. “My whole s–t is about being positive and moving forward and all that s–t, but the fact I heard Drake say something negative about Kendrick’s wife and his kids, that made me say, ‘Ah, adios!’”
Throughout the battle, Drake took shots at Lamar’s family on “Push Ups,” “Family Matters”, and “The Heart Part 6.”Drake alleged that Kendrick allegedly physically abused his wife Whitney Alford. Drizzy claimed that Dave Free, Kendrick’s creative and business partner Dave Free, was the real father of one of his children.
Lamar’s “Not Like Us” peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and broke the record for most weeks atop the Hot Rap Songs passing Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” in October.
At the Pop Out concert, Dr. Dre appeared e at Kendrick’s Pop Out concert at the Kia Forum last. where he had the honor to introduce “Not Like Us” with a simple, “Pst, I see dead people.” K-Dot went on to perform the song 5 times causing the crowd to go into a frenzy. Additionally, the song has been nominated for several Grammys.
Lamar’s next move is to perform at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans.
