It appears Drake is returning to his “revenge era” after a new video surfaced where he spoke out about former friends who recently turned against him.

Despite not naming anyone specifically, fans soon speculated that he was referring to the likes of Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, and Rick Ross, with whom he’s had a history of conflict.

Known for his subtle but cutting remarks, Drake has always hinted that October is when things get “spooky” for his adversaries, and this time seems no different. Drake’s cryptic comments were in full swing during a “Nostalgia” party event in Toronto on Saturday night (Oct. 5), hosted by media personality Tyrone Edwards.

Though he said plenty, the most striking part of his speech came when he said, “People you thought were friends, or people you thought were close to you, they might switch up.”

Fans quickly reacted to the video, with one commenting, “Greatness will always outshine the hate. 15 years of dominance!”

Another fan linked the sentiment to his 2021 track “Fair Trade,” adding, “He noticed it since the Certified Lover Boy days, hence why he made that ‘Fair Trade’ record.” In that song, Drake famously raps, “I been losing friends and finding peace, but honestly, it sounds like a fair trade to me.”

Paranoia and caution have been themes throughout Drake’s career, and he’s never shied away from addressing the cost of fame. Whether it’s the wisdom passed down from JAY-Z on his debut album or the venomous shots he aimed at rivals on Scorpion, Drake has been navigating the pressures of being at the top for over a decade.

Earlier this summer, Drake teased the possibility of a joint album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, his longtime OVO collaborator. While there’s no official release date yet, fans eagerly speculate it could drop around Drake’s birthday later this month.
