Drake goes back-to-back.
Drake released a new A.I.-supported track called “Taylor Made Freestyle” on Friday night (April 19) after dropping “Push Ups” on streaming platforms.
The 6God uses A.I.-created verse to taunt Kendrick Lamar, mimicking West Coast legends Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg, while waiting by the proclaimed “West Coast Savior” for the response to his recent diss track. Drake wrote verses with A.I. vocals to give Lamar a pep talk about his rival’s past involving younger women and representing the West Coast as America’s Most Wanted.
As Tupac, Drake raps: “We need an undebated west coast victory, man / Call him a bitch for me / Talk about him liking young girls as a gift from me / Heard it on the Budden Podcast, it’s gotta be true / They told me the spirit of Makaveli is alive / In the nigga under five-foot-five, so it’s gotta be you.”
As Snoop, Drake adds: “But still you gotta show this fucking owl who’s boss on the West / Now’s a time to really make a power move / ‘Cause right now it’s looking like you writing out the gameplan on how to lose / How to bark up the wrong tree and then get your head popped in a crowded room / World is watching this chess game, but are you out of moves? / Dot, you know that the D-O-G never fucking doubted you / But right now it seems like you posted up without a clue.”
Drake concluded the freestyle by questioning whether Kendrick’s response was halted by Taylor Swift’s releasing new music this week, as a response has not surfaced since “Push Ups.” Aware Kendrick Lamar has a diss track prepared, but once again references the DAMN creator needing approval from others to release it.
“The next one is really ’bout to bring out the coward in you,” Drake raps. “But now we gotta wait a fucking week ’cause Taylor Swift is your new Top / And if you ’bout to drop, she gotta approve / This girl really ’bout to make you act like you not in a feud / She tailor-made your schedule with Ant, you out of the loop / Hate all you corporate industry puppets, I’m not in the mood / I love it when you niggas talk loose like I’m not in the room / Since “Like That” your tone changed a little, you not as enthused.”
Drake clarified that he wouldn’t back down, leading to an inevitable feud between the two. He welcomes it.
Drake ends the verse with, “You tryna let this shit die down, nah, nah, nah / Not this time, nigga, you followin’ through / I guess you need another week to figure out how to improve / What the fuck is taking so long? We waiting on you.”
A.I.-generated Kendrick Lamar response tracks are circulating on social media, and some are hard to distinguish as A.I. or authentic. Lamar removed the “Big 3” reference in his “Like That” verse and has not commented on it since.
A feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar over hip-hop domination became public last month after simmering beneath the surface for a decade. The world is eagerly awaiting Kendrick’s response.
Drake has other beef in hip-hop, including Future, Metro Boomin, A$AP Rocky, and Rick Ross.
