Drake recently disclosed that his 2016 hit with Rihanna, “Too Good,” was actually inspired by tennis star Serena Williams. This revelation emerged from a behind-the-scenes video included in a massive 100-gigabyte release of material by the Toronto rapper on Tuesday. The track “Too Good” originally appeared on Drake’s album, Views.

In the video, Drake is seen explaining the song to his mother. He shares, “It’s funny because when I make songs about women, I also make songs for them. So, I know what kind of song to make. If I’m gonna talk about them, I’ll at least do them the justice of making them a song that they’ll like.” He continues, “I know Serena very well and I know that she’ll hear it loud and clear but not hate me for it because it’s lighthearted.” His mother appears unsurprised by the news that Williams was the muse behind the song.

The video clip was reposted on Instagram, sparking a flurry of comments from fans. Many were critical of Drake’s decision to share this information years later. One fan commented, “He’s spiraling somebody in his contacts better check on him. Dropping these videos years later is giving obsessed. Rihanna nor Serena are thinking about you…” Another added, “He definitely going through a midlife crisis.” The full video can be watched below.

In addition to this revealing video, Drake also released three new singles: “It’s Up,” featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage, “Blue Green Red,” and “Housekeeping Knows,” featuring Latto. Fans quickly began speculating about the content of these tracks, particularly 21 Savage’s verse in “It’s Up,” which many believe takes aim at Kendrick Lamar.

Drake’s recent activity, including new material and music, has fans buzzing. Revealing that “Too Good” was inspired by Serena Williams adds depth to the song’s backstory. It highlights Drake’s talent for drawing from personal connections.
