G. Dep recently opened up about his mixed feelings when he first heard Lil Wayne’s song “Uproar,” which closely mirrors his 2001 hit “Special Delivery.” Released in 2018 as part of Tha Carter V, “Uproar” uses the same sample from The Moog Machine’s “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” but doesn’t directly sample Dep’s track. Initially, Dep wasn’t thrilled with the similarities. On the BagFuel podcast, he admitted, “I was like, ‘Yo, Wayne, what happened, man?’” He added, “At first I was like, ‘Damn! Why would they make a single off of a single?’”

Dep also revealed that he didn’t receive any payment from “Uproar” since it didn’t technically sample his song. However, after some time, his perspective shifted. He now sees the song as a tribute to his work, saying, “After a while, I was like, ‘This is kinda dope.’ The dude took the time to get on one of my joints. I was honored.” He continued, “Yo, they just brought the song back!”

G. Dep eventually remixed “Uproar” and released his own version called “Deproar (Look What You Made Me Do).”

The producer of “Special Delivery,” EZ Elpee, also expressed frustration with the lack of credit, telling HipHopDX, “They stole my shit.” He compared it to someone redoing “Ruff Ryders Anthem” without acknowledging the original creators.

G. Dep was released from prison earlier this year after serving 14 years for a crime he confessed to in 2010. Reflecting on his decision, he told the New York Post, “I feel what I did was right,” even though the case had gone cold for years before his confession.
