Jay-Z and Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan are some of the most influential hip-hop acts to come out of New York in the 1990s. Their history dates back to the solo act and 10-man group’s early days.

In a recent interview with Million Dollarz Worth of Game podcast, Ghostface Killah shared that Jay-Z, hip-hop’s first-ever billionaire, recently reminded him that the Wu-Tang Clan still owes him $500 for an opening performance at their concert in the 90s.

While promoting his new album, Set The Tone, Ghostface spoke about Jay-Z’s journey with host Gillie Da Kid and Wallo267, which led him to remember that he bumped into Hov. He reminded Iron Man that Wu had forgotten to pay him for his performance while he was a duo act with his former mentor, Jaz-O.

“One time, RZA and [GZA] were telling me that Hov was on the list with us to do a show or whatever. We gave him some time,” Ghostface at 33:05. “Long story short, n***as ain’t pay him the money. You know how Hov is. He wait. A few years down the line, and bring it up to one of the n***as. Like, ‘Yeah, remember that time you ain’t really pay me?’”

While it was never confirmed that Jay-Z received the $500, Ghostface would laugh about Jay becoming the genre’s first-ever billionaire. “This n***a over here a billionaire now,” he added.

Jay-Z became a billionaire in 2019 after becoming a music icon with his 13-album catalog, including classics like Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album. In 2023, Jay was net worth 2.5 billion after securing lucrative liquor deals, live concerts, investments, and more.

After Jay-Z, Ghostface Killah would spend the rest of the interview discussing Wu-Tang’s early days, reunion, today’s music, Las Vegas residency, and, of course, the new album. Set The Tone is Ghostface 12th album. Released in May, the album features Jim Jones, Sheek Louch, Method Man, Raekwon, Nas, Kanye West, and more.
