The popular Hawk Tuah Girl, Haliey Welch, clarifies an alleged lawsuit against the interviewers who made her a viral sensation.

The Tenessee native addressed the claims that circulated across social media on October 6 via X. She posted a photoshopped image of her face over Reese Witherspoon’s character Elle Woods from Legally Blonde and called the rumors “fake news.”

When asked directly about Marlow’s comments, Welch responded with humor, writing, “If I sued, it would be public, but I guess clout is being chased.” In another post, she warned her followers not to believe everything they read online.

Earlier this week, DeArius Marlow, creator of Tim and Dee TV on YouTube, hinted at a potential lawsuit in a TikTok video. Haliey Welch first gained attention when she appeared on Tim & Dee TV’s man-on-the-street interview in June. She earned the nickname Hawk Tuah Girl after her quirky response to a question went viral, amassing over 8 million views.

As for her relationship with Marlow, Welch revealed that after asking him to stop posting additional clips from the interview, he blocked her and her friends. Welch told PEOPLE that she was initially okay with the first video, but when Marlow posted more clips, she and her friends asked him to stop.

“He ended up blocking all of us and didn’t acknowledge any of our requests,” she said. According to Welch, Marlow did attempt to reach out to her after she went viral, but she refused to engage, citing how unkind he had been when the situation first unfolded.

“He wasn’t kind to me when all this started,” Welch said. “So I don’t have any time of day for him.”
