Halle Bailey’s return to music hits the campaign trail as she performs her 2023 hit, “Angel,” at Vice President Kamala Harris’s fundraiser in Los Angeles on Sunday (Sept. 29). Deadline reported that the event raised over $28 million.
Halo’s mother shared the captivating performance on her Instagram account with a caption revealing she traveled worldwide to perform for the Democratic nominee. It reads:
“Some might hate and they wait on your fall, they don’t know there’s a grace for it all [music note emoji]. omg omg pinch me i came straight off the plane from Paris to sing for our beautiful vice president @kamalaharri. Thank you for inviting me it was an honor to sing today.”
In addition to sharing a video of her performance, Halle Bailey posted footage of a warm embrace between herself and Harris. “Angel” holds deep significance for Bailey, as it was written in response to the racism and online negativity she faced leading up to the release of Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid in 2023.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Halle explained the song’s meaning, describing it as “a love letter to myself and to all the other Black girls and women in the world who have felt like they don’t belong.”
Bailey’s support for Harris follows a broader trend within her circle. Her mentor, Beyoncé, has often seen her song “Freedom” used at various campaign events for Harris. Halle’s endorsement of the vice president includes musical superstars such as Taylor Swift, Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, and Cardi B.
Halle made headlines last week after attending Usher’s concert in Los Angeles. Halle’s boyfriend, DDG, interfered with the legendary R&B singer’s attempt to feed her a cherry. A video of the clip went viral on social media.
