In April, old text conversations between Ice Spice and her ex-best friend circulated online. Allegedly released to the public by the former best friend, the screenshots shared claims that the chart-topping recording artist cheated on her then-boyfriend with rap star Lil Tjay, disliked Nicki Minaj, and more. During an interview with Real 92.3’s Bootleg Kev at this weekend’s BET Awards 2024, Ice Spice addressed the leaked texts and how she chose to handle it.
“Sometimes I’m tempted to, like, engage on certain things,” Ice Spice told Bootleg Kev. “But, then, I also realize you’re just going to give it legs to, like, grow and run with, and I think sometimes you can over-explain yourself a little bit. So I just like to just focus on what I can control and what really matters, you know what I mean.”
At Sunday evening’s BET Awards 2024, Ice Spice performed her latest hit, “Think U The Shit (Fart),” and teased her new single “Phat Butt.” She was nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist this year.
While on the award show’s red carpet, Ice Spice was asked if Nicki Minaj would appear on her upcoming tour. She could not confirm Minaj’s appearance but congratulated her and Taylor Swift on their record-breaking tours.
“They’re busy ladies, right, on sold-out tours,” Ice Spice told Entertainment Tonight, “Congratulations to them. They know they’re always welcomed.”
Ice Spice hits the road this week on her world tour in support of her debut album, Y2K, which drops on July 26. Her album is named after the year she was born, 2000. “The next chapter, I would have to say Y2K is the name of the album because I was born in 2000,” she told Complex in April.
Joining the Bronx native on the road are popular new artists Cash Cobain and RioutUSA.
