Move over, Sexyy Red. You’re not the only rap star squaring off against wrestlers last week. Iggy Azalea blasted Hulk Hogan over the weekend for harsh comments about her cryptocurrency.
The 34-year-old Australian recording artist addressed Hulk Hogan’s provocative tweets, bashing celebrity-backed cryptocurrencies. After the wrestling legend’s inflammatory tweets seemingly targeted her cryptocurrency, $MOTHER, Iggy Azalea cleverly responded.
Hogan’s now-deleted tweets allegedly at Azalea said the following:
“You suck at pumping. $HULK has the real milk.”
Azalea fired back with a tweet featuring Hogan’s face humorously placed between her ample buns: “$MOTHER BURNS @6 PM EST,” she tweeted, turning the insult into a promotion for her crypto project.
Following the exchange, Hulk Hogan claimed his account had been hacked and apologized on Instagram. He insisted the tweets were not his and promised to remove them, distancing himself from the controversy by attributing the activity to unauthorized access to his Twitter account.
This drama unfolded amidst Azalea’s recent foray into the cryptocurrency market with her $MOTHER coin, launched on the Solana blockchain. Introduced in late May 2024, $MOTHER experienced a meteoric rise, its value increasing by over 1,200% within a week, primarily driven by enthusiastic speculation from Azalea’s fans. This swift ascent turned early investors into crypto millionaires almost overnight.
Despite its status as a “meme coin”—a cryptocurrency inspired by internet memes that offer no inherent utility or value beyond its novelty and Azalea’s celebrity endorsement—$MOTHER’s market capitalization surged to approximately $200 million. This phenomenon underscores the powerful influence of celebrities in the volatile cryptocurrency market.
