Jamie Foxx recently opened up about the true reason behind his health & hospitalization last year. In a video that surfaced on social media on Monday, July 1st, Foxx shared his experience with a group at a restaurant in Phoenix. He recounted how he took an Advil for a headache on April 11 and woke up 20 days later with no memory of what had happened. “Look, April 11th last year, bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil [clicks fingers], I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything,” Foxx revealed. He mentioned that his sister and daughter took him to a doctor in Atlanta, who indicated something was wrong. “The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on up there,’” he added, pointing to his head, but chose not to elaborate further on camera.
Initially, Foxx’s health scare was described as a “medical complication,” with his daughter Corrine assuring fans that he was “already on his way to recovery” due to “quick action and great care.” Foxx was hospitalized while filming the movie “Back in Action” in Atlanta, alongside Cameron Diaz, Glenn Close, and Kyle Chandler. Directed by Seth Gordon, the action-comedy is set to premiere on Netflix in November.
Despite conflicting reports and speculation about his health, Corrine revealed the following month that Foxx had been “out of the hospital for weeks” and was recuperating, even playing pickleball. TMZ reported that Foxx checked into a top physical rehabilitation center following his release.
Foxx later shared more about his near-death experience, revealing he saw “the tunnel” and initially couldn’t walk. “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now. It’s different,” he said while accepting the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television last December. Reflecting on his journey, he added, “I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy… I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light! It was hot in that tunnel so I didn’t know where I was going.” He expressed gratitude for his recovery, saying, “As I walk up here to this microphone and get this Vanguard Award, all I can say is ‘Lord, have mercy, Jesus.’”
