Janet Jackson takes us on a trip down memory lane with an epic wardrobe malfunction—right in front of Queen Elizabeth!

Reflecting on her standout styles – during an interview with British Vogue – including the outfit from her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 1990 and the look from her Rhythm Nation 1814 era, the “What Have You Done For Me Lately” singer, 58, shared a cringe-worthy tale.

“Funny story about this outfit,” she began. “I was performing for the Queen of England and we were doing ‘Rhythm Nation.’ Sure enough, as soon as I squatted, my pants split right in my booty crack. I couldn’t believe it happened. I thought, oh my God. And then I started feeling air back there, so I knew it had really happened.”

To avoid a royal embarrassment, Jackson made sure never to turn her back to Queen Elizabeth. “I just faced forward,” she revealed, adding that some choreography required her to turn around but she managed to adjust.

Jackson’s all-black look was inspired by Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. The original ensemble featured a mockneck shirt with a silver plate, but Jackson and designer Bill Whitten, known for creating some of Michael Jackson’s iconic pieces, added “a lot more” silver plates to the mix.

Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction blast from the past comes just as she’s stepping into the spotlight again—this time with a shiny new Las Vegas residency. Variety reports that the iconic singer will take the stage at the Resorts World Theatre, starting around New Year’s Eve. Fans can look forward to at least 10 shows from the “Pleasure Principle” diva—just hopefully without any wardrobe mishaps this time around.

“Janet Jackson is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in pop music,” said Bobby Reynolds, senior vice president of AEG Presents Las Vegas in a statement. He added, “We could not be more thrilled to close out 2024 with her return to the Las Vegas Strip and her venue debut at our award-winning Resorts World Theatre and to kick off 2025 with a run of sure-to-be-unforgettable shows. This is a residency fans won’t want to miss.”
