Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have called it quits after news broke the singer had filed divorce papers. TMZ reports that on Tuesday (Aug. 20), J. Lo filed the legal documents in Los Angeles County Superior Court. However, the outlet says the papers didn’t get filed by a lawyer. She filed “pro se,” which means representing herself without the presence of an attorney. The Selena star listed their official date of separation on April 26, 2024.
One of the most interesting factors in the debacle is that the pair didn’t have a prenuptial agreement. A move very shocking to fans on the part of Jennifer Lopez, who has a net worth upwards of $400,000,000. While it’s unclear what is causing the split, many Bennifer fans are brokenhearted. A source tells the outlet, that the Good Will Hunting actor fears relapsing and says the relationship was not healthy. “It’s really unhealthy for him to be around any kind of alcohol. And with J. Lo, the drinking came with parties, surrounded by fake people who treated him special because of his fame, which was a trigger for him,” the source said.
The source continues: “The marriage is now incredibly overwhelming – J.Lo lives a very glam lifestyle, and he is often faced with temptation. He’s risking sobriety in that environment and he has to leave to avoid his worse nightmare — relapse.” The person added, “He’s moving on. His plate is full. That’s just how Ben deals with adversity now that he’s committed to staying sober: He buckles down and focuses on the work. He’s not looking back.”
