BMF (Black Mafia Family) was founded by Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” in 1985. The pair later used money from their drug trafficking and money laundering empire to journey into the world of hip-hop. The pair’s infamous story and flashy lifestyle allowed them to become icons within the hip-hop culture. In 2005, the brothers were indicted by the DEA under the Continuing Criminal Enterprise Statute and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
