Even politics want to get up in the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef.
On Monday, President Joe Biden‘s campaign released a video criticizing his rival, former President Donald Trump, featuring Lamar’s song “Euphoria.” Making a re-election bid, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris released a campaign advertisement that uses the “I hate…” lines to describe Trump using relatable photos.
On “Euphoria,” a diss song towards longtime rival Drake, Kendrick raps, “It’s always been about love and hate, now let me say I’m the biggest hater / I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress / I hate the way that you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it’s gon’ be direct.”
The Instagram post is captioned: “Speaking of diss tracks.”
“Euphoria” is Kendrick Lamar’s response to Drake’s “Push Ups.” While both songs are climbing the charts, Lamar’s tracks have quickly garnered the #1 and #2 spots on streaming platforms. “Not Like Us,” another Lamar diss track towards Drake broke records as the most streamed song in a single day and the most streamed song ever on Spotify.
Politics joins the NBA and MLB in playing Lamar’s diss tracks in their advertisements. The WWE offered Drake and Kendrick to settle their difference in a wrestling match.
Hip-hop has often been used in politics to improve public perception. Collaborators seek to secure popular votes through Lil Wayne and Kodak Black’s pardons, signature sneakers, Lil Pump‘s endorsements, and GloRilla selfies at the White House.
The United States elections are scheduled for November 5, 2024.
