The recent development in the Tory Lanez case has reopened discussion about the situation among podding. In a recent Joe Budden Podcast episode, Joe Budden spoke about how the ordeal is unheard of to him, as well as his co-hosts.
Lanez’s legal team tried to submit new evidence to his 2020 shooting case, but it was rejected. Jauquan Smith, who was driving him on the night of the shooting, claimed to have seen Megan Thee Stallion’s ex-friend Kelsey Harris holding a gun. Revisiting the situation with the new information, Joe Budden proceeded to share his thoughts with the cast.
“I believe he is ill-tempered, I do believe he is ill-tempered. I’ve never seen a celebrity shoot somebody for less. People that have a lot going on. He had a lot going on, one of the hottest artists out. Now, not as successful as her [Megan Thee Stallion] at the time. But I’m pressed to believe that.”
He continued: “In the heated moment, why is Tory heated? Somebody tell me why Tory Lanez is heated in that moment. I pop you, I pop you, I’m the one who wants to tell about it.”
“Scuffled and recklessness is still different than ‘he shot me,’ which has been my beef with Megan this whole time.”
Joe immediately corrected his mention of Megan’s story by alluding that the rap star may not have fabricated her perspective on what happened but others behind the scenes did. “Well, first of all, I think this is above her,” replied Budden when asked why Megan would lie about the shooting incident. “I don’t think she made it up. She is a mere pawn in this. This play is greater than her. She didn’t make nothing up. I ain’t gonna say who I think made it up. But it wasn’t her.”
After clarification, Joe Budden continued his theories, mentioning Megan’s former best friend Kelsey Nicole, who was involved in the incident. Joe aldds that Kelsey reached out to him after discussing the case previously.
Budden said: “Ni**a know out there who it is, I ain’t saying it on the broadcast. But I know exactly who it is, I know how that gun got there, I know who gun it was. And I thought it was weird the last time we talked about this sh*t, Kelsy jumped in my DMs, talking about, ‘Aye, don’t talk about this sh*t no more.’ Why? You got immunity. It’s odd … Just odd. Why wouldn’t you want someone to talk about one of the biggest cases in however many years? I think this is a scary state if that’s what we think of Black men. It’s a really scary state. You just took somebody in the top 5% and said he’ll shoot somebody because of male ego.”
Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a California judge in August 2023 for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez’s attorney has filed several appeals following the ruling. Lanez’s wife and mother of his 7-year-old son, Raina Chassagne, filed for divorce in June.
In a recent meeting with Lanez supporters, Megan Thee Stallion winced as she passed through the crowd. Megan is currently performing her nationwide tour with GloRilla. Drake, Fivio Foreign, Chris Brown, and Meek Mill are artists who supported Tory Lanez after his conviction.
