John Legend is no fan of Donald Trump and has taken major issue with his recent remarks about Haitian immigrants.
Speaking with Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Legend took aim at Trump for his divisive rhetoric.
The former President has repeated false claims that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Oh., Legend’s hometown, have been eating domesticated pets in the city.
“When he talks about immigration, he’s talking about Black and brown people coming from the global South. He says they are f**king up our gene pool,” Legend said.
“They are poisoning the blood of America. So what he’s saying is, the ideal version of America is a white America, and anytime brown people infiltrate America they’re messing up the blood of America,” he added.
Legend blasted Trump for his faulty ideologies on race and targeting of people of color in his campaign.
“That takes us back to Hitler,” “That takes us back to Eugenics,” Legend argued. It takes us back to folks who believe there’s a genetic hierarchy that’s racially determined. I just can’t imagine, it couldn’t be me,” Legend said. “A Black man voting for somebody who believes so deeply that Black men are inferior to him because we’re Black.”
Legend has never been shy about sharing his political issues. Previously he endorsed Barack Obama and Joe Biden in past elections. In 2024, he pledged his support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy.
In August, Legend took the stage along with Stevie Wonder, Sheila E., and Maren Morris to perform at the Democratic National Convention.
Speaking with “CBS Mornings”, the EGOT winner shared that Harriss is more than qualified to be president
“She is eminently qualified to be president. And then she also has the right character traits I think to be a great president, which means she cares about people’s lives, wants the government to work for people and improve their lives,” he said.
