Jordan Chiles experienced extreme highs and lows during the Summer Olympics in Paris. She made news around the world after being stripped of the Bronze medal because of technicality.

During an interview with CNN, the gold medalist shared how she’s handling her unfortunate reality.

“Things can be really hard in your life and things may be stripped from you and you’re going to have to deal with that. And understand that you need to fight for what you’re fighting for,” Chiles said.

“And that’s something that I’ve learned as well in the past three or four months just coming off of Paris,” she added.

Attorneys representing Chiles filed an appeal on her behalf with the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland in September. They are seeking a reversal of the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that took her medal away. The committee awarded the bronze medal to Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu.

She also spoke about how Simone Biles has helped her on the mat and through this public battle.

“Being in that position that she was in during that time frame and her being vulnerable, it just made it even better. Not just me, but everybody around us. (And) not just in our sport, but (for) people in general,” Chiles said.

“And having somebody like her, whether people see it or don’t see it – and I’ve been behind the scenes of what she’s gone through. It’s definitely cool to finally see that people are understanding where she’s coming from, not just as an athlete, but also as a human,” she continued.

Above all, Chiles wants to inspire all Black girls to love who they are.

“I want the younger generation to understand that it’s okay to be yourself when it comes to anything in life,” Chiles said
