JuJu Watkins Documentary To Premiere On NBC and Peacock

University of Southern California (USC) star JuJu Watkins will star in and executive produce an upcoming documentary series for NBC and Peacock.

Titled On the Rise: JuJu Watkins, the first two episodes on Saturday. Nov. 23. at 3 p.m. on NBC, right before USC takes one Notre Dame. The next three episodes will air exclusively on Peacock.

With the launch of the series, Watkins will become the first college athlete to have a documentary about her while still in school. The series will feature appearances by WNBA legend Candace Parker, former USC star Tina Thompson, and  2Chainz,

Producers on the series include LeBron James’Uninterrupted, Rich Paul’s Klutch Sports who represents Watkins, and 4.4.Forty. State Farm is sponsoring the docuseries.

Watkins said the series will “give people more insight into who I am, my values, and my story because I take so much pride in it.”

“I’m an introvert, so I don’t really share that much online. Honestly, I think to just give people more perspective into who I am, and my family, my friends, I think that’s also an important dynamic,” Watkins told The Hollywood Reporter. “ I’m introverted, so this is kind of my way of sharing myself a little bit with everyone else.”

4.4.Forty Media’s Danny Barton says that if On The Rise does well, it could lead to more opportunities.

“We’re definitely in the middle of discussions right now to figure out what continuum would look like,” Burton shared. “Obviously, as she continues to grow, the story continues to grow, and the potential for it’s there.”

During her freshman year, Watkins took the college basketball world by storm. She was named a unanimous first-team All-American and won the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award. She also received national freshman of the year recognition and set the NCAA Division I freshman scoring record.

Watkins’ averages last season included 27.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, setting the NCAA freshman scoring record.
