On Monday (Oct. 31), Kanye “Ye” West fans created a GoFundMe to help make the rapper a billionaire again. Apparently the fundraiser was removed by the platform after earning just five dollars.
The crowd-funding page was titled “Make Kanye West a Billionaire Again” with a fundraising goal of $1 billion after his net worth dropped last week when Adidas cut ties with him.
The Grammy award-winning rapper’s 10-year partnership with the athletic company for his Yeezy clothing line made up $1.5 billion of his net worth, so without the partnership, his net worth drops down to about $500 million, according to Forbes. Last week, West took to his Instagram account to confirm that he “lost two billion dollars in one day.”
Adidas, along with Balenciaga, Gap, Vogue, Foot Locker, CAA, and more, cut ties with West after he came under fire for consistently making series of anti-Semitic remarks on Twitter over the past weeks. According to reports made by CNN, he was claimed to be “obsession” with Adolf Hitler and nearly named his album Hitler in 2018. West also made false claims regarding the death of George Floyd during his interview on “Drink Champs.” He claimed that fentanyl contributed to the death of Floyd, although it was already ruled as a homicide.
In a statement made on Oct. 25, the company said, “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
In 2016, a fan named Jeremy Piatt started a GoFundMe page to raise $53 million for West after he claimed that he was facing bankruptcy at the time. Fans raised over $57,000, but the fashion designer declined the funds. Instead, the money was donated to music charity Notes for Notes.
