Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, GNX, has quickly become a major success. Released unexpectedly late last month, the project surprised fans who had speculated for months about new music from the Compton rapper. Despite minimal promotion, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, moving an impressive 319,000 album-equivalent units in the U.S. It has also claimed the top spot on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, according to the publication. While Kendrick didn’t secure a No. 1 on the Canadian Hot 100, his tracks “Luther” and “Squabble Up” currently hold the second and third spots, respectively.
Adding to the excitement, Kendrick announced his “Grand National” tour with SZA earlier this week. The tour is set to kick off in April 2025, with the duo performing at 19 stadiums across North America. Among the scheduled stops is Toronto’s Rogers Centre, a venue promoted by the Blue Jays’ official X account shortly after the news broke. The announcement sparked jokes on social media, with fans teasing that Drake’s hometown seemed more excited about Kendrick and SZA than their local star.
Kendrick’s ability to dominate charts and headlines underscores his continued influence in the music world. With GNX earning accolades and his upcoming tour promising unforgettable performances, 2025 is shaping up to be another landmark year for the Pulitzer-winning artist.
