This week, Maison Martell, one of the oldest Cognac Houses, premiered the first episode of Martell HOME LIVE. Hosted by the legendary Killer Mike, the digital platform highlighted music, dance, and entertainment with special performances by Princess Nokia, Charlie XCX, Big Freedia with dancers Javier Ninja, Archie Burnett, and Dejiavu Ferguson. Where would such an eclectic group of talent meet to drink, discuss, and perform?

It is none other than the historic Greystone Court situated on the Hudson River in Yonkers. You may have seen it as Beyonce’s home in the “Irreplaceable” music video or as the home in A$AP Ferg’s “Shabba.” The 8,500 square foot mansion represents a seamless balance between awe-inspiring and a dominating force. A foyer leads straight into a European ballroom, which has a symmetrically carved ceiling surrounding multiple chandeliers.

The Greystone Court was the perfect place to host such a magnanimous event because of its lavish architecture. Partygoers were wowed by the variety of performances. People were infused with an energy only these performers could generate and a house of this grandeur could communicate.

Panel

During one segment of the show, the panel joined Killer Mike on the couch to discuss what motivates them and what societal push back they received growing up. “It actually took me a while to discover who I was as a person,” shared Charlie XCX “When I feel something is true I fully go there. I’m not afraid to make mistakes,” she added.

The most energetic and unique performance of the night was performed by Big Freedia, who has been credited for popularizing bounce music in New Orleans. Her performance was highlighted by her dancers  Javier Ninja and Archie Burnett, creating a powerful display of self expression involving music and dance.

With a solid foundation and like a fine cognac, these performers are having an immeasurable impact on artistry and craft.
