Kobe Bryant‘s father, Joe Bryant, has passed away. Joe was 69 years-old.
Joe, also known as “Jellybean” is a former NBA player who was a first-round pick to the Golden State Warriors in 1975. Throughout his career he played for teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers and Houston Rockets.
Jellybean then took his talents overseas where he dominated in Europe from 1983-1991.
According to reports, Joe battled with a health issue and suffered a massive stroke at the time of his passing.
Joe and his wife share three children together. Along with Kobe, Joe and his wife Pam Bryant also have two daughters, Sharia and Shaya.
Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, in January 2020.
Vanessa Bryant previously gave a heartfelt speech during the unveiling of the highly anticipated Kobe Bryant statue outside of the Crypto.com Arena following his passing.
“It goes without saying, today is an especially sad day for us since Kobe and Gigi aren’t here for what is supposed to be an incredibly joyous moment in Kobe’s legacy,” she began. “I want to thank you all for being here and showing your love and support for Kobe and our family. I’m thankful for all of the fans, including those watching and supporting from home.”
Vanessa continued, “Kobe has so many people that have supported him all over the world from the very beginning, and this moment isn’t just for Kobe. It’s for all of you who have been rooting for him all of these years. And to the fans here in LA: This is a special city Kobe was so proud to represent. You welcomed him with open arms and have been so important to him, our family and his legacy. It brings me joy to see how much love you have for all of us. We love you back.”
