Latto and Nicki Minaj might’ve had issues in the past, but that didn’t stop her from enjoying one of Nicki’s most popular verses. The “Big Energy” rapper recently took to Instagram Live, and with an unknown friend by her side, rapped along to Young Money’s “BedRock.” But it wasn’t until she rapped along to Minaj’s verse on the track, that the comment section went crazy. “Okay, I get it, let me think, I guess it’s my turn/Maybe it’s time to put this p*ssy on your sideburns,” Minaj raps. “He say I’m bad, he prob’ly right
He pressing me like button-downs on a Friday night/I’m so pretty like, be on my pedal bike/Be on my low starch, be on my egg whites/ He say, “Nicki don’t stop, you the bestest/And I’d just be coming off the top, asbestos.”

While it’s unclear what exactly happened between the two, everything came to a head around October 2022, after Minaj complained about “Super Freaky Girl” not being eligible for the rap category at the Grammys. However Latto’s, “Big Energy” was able to snag a nomination, which in Nicki’s opinion, was a political move. “Now, let’s say that ‘Super Freaky Girl’ is a pop song. Let’s just say that. What is [Latto’s] ‘Big Energy’?… If you move ‘Super Freaky Girl’ out of rap and put it in pop, do the same thing for ‘Big Energy,’” Minaj said in an Instagram Live around the time.

Latto calls Lil Kim the “g.o.a.t”

Back in August, Latto shared with Complex‘s Goat Talk, why she felt Lil Kim was one of the greatest rappers alive. “The GOAT is Lil’ Kim, for sure,” Latto said. “She’s a fashion icon with timeless music and unforgettable looks. She’s a permanent fixture in not just rap, but in female rap specifically.” She also told the outlet, that she drew inspiration from Kim, Mariah Carey, Kelis, and more for her Sugar Honey Ice Tea album. “I feel like what I’m doing hasn’t been done before,” she explained. “Visually, I’ve drawn from Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, and Lil’ Kim. Musically, I’ve been influenced by Kelis, but with my own Southern Hip Hop twist.”

Sugar Honey Iced Tea, has generated a lot of buzz, receiving positive feedback from both her fans and the wider hip-hop community. However, it hasn’t been without its critics. Some rival fanbases, particularly those of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, have mocked the album’s projected first-week sales, which suggest a debut at number 17 on the Billboard 200 with about 27,000 album-equivalent units sold. While these numbers aren’t disastrous for a well-known artist like Latto, they haven’t made the splash she might have hoped for.
