On Wednesday (Nov. 20), NBA superstar LeBron James announced that he will be taking a break from social media.
The Los Angeles Lakers forward made the announcement on X(formerly Twitter) and his Instagram account.
“And with that said I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care,” his last post read.
Before announcing his departure, James shared a post from Rich Kleiman, Kevin Durant’s business manager, about the negative energy that drives sports conversations.
We can all acknowledge that sports is the last part of society that universally brings people together. So why can’t the coverage do the same? It’s only clickbait when you say it.
“When the platform is so big, you can make the change and allow us all an escape from real-life negativity. I for one find it all a waste of breath,” Kleiman continued.
“Amen,” James replied.
The timing of the announcement came one day after James said: “Everybody on the Internet called me a liar all the time” when he said he watched Dalton Knecht, the Lakers rookie forward, at Tennessee.
James added that the Lakers were fortunate to draft Knecht so late in the first round.
“I did not think he was going to fall to us. We thought it would be impossible. I have no idea how that happened but very grateful and very happy that he’s here,” he continued. “I knew exactly what we was getting when he fell to 17.”
Despite the negativity, James and the Lakers have been one of the best teams in the NBA. Currently, the “Lake Show” is 10-4 and have won six straight games.
On Thursday (Nov.21), they take on the Orlando Magic at home.
It has not been disclosed when James will make his return to social media.
